At this blog we like to see the past and try to predict the future, or simply analyse the present, the past being where the Nokia E71 belongs, and the future where the Nokia E6-00 will reign.
If we look at the design, we see that the Finnish manufacturer has become less serious in its approach, so that the handset can dual as a business phone and an entertainment one, so that the user can carry it to anywhere.
What certainly hasn’t changed is the comfort brought by the full QWERTY keyboard on the actual front of the handset – you don’t need to twist, open or unfold any part of the device in order to take advantage of the full keyboard.
Of course, the Nokia E6-00 is hardly the top of the cream when it comes to Nokia’s line-up. To that belongs the Nokia N8, you can visit it or purchase it from retailer www.dialaphone.co.uk.
The Nokia E6-00 itself bets on the touchscreen plus keyboard combo, which I believe is great, adds Microsoft apps needed for business, social networking access for one’s daily life, and my favourite – free GPS navigation with Ovi Maps.
The E71x was released some months ago as an exclusive version of the classic E71 by AT&T. The E71x has some improvements over the old E71: Feature Pack 2 was added together with a slightly improved keyboard made out of a more rubbery material than in the E71. The E71x is an interesting device, and here at the E71 and E71x blog we are bringing you the review, only this time it was written by someone who doesn’t have previous experiences with S60, in fact, not even smartphones.
Sometimes when I browse new themes for my Nokia devices, specially the E71; it can happen two things. Either I don’t find what I was looking for and just install the most decent one, or I find exactly, and sometimes even more, than what I was looking for. Well, today I found one of those themes that are more than I could ask for.
The theme comes from the genius themer, Tehkseven who keeps impressing and surprising the S60 fans with his amazing S60 themes. And with his latest theme he has done it again, the name of the theme is aviator. This cool looking theme is inspired in planes as it name reveals. The theme has l0ts of cool features such as transparencies and of course 100SVG icons in three different styles that the user can choose from. Seven which is Tehsevens icon set with over 100 icons, then Ovi and the regular icons that already come with tthe Nokia E71. The theme is just amazing, the homescreen is even more amazing, and good news is that is totally free. Google is the responsible for a couple of the greatest applications for S60 out there, just Google Maps alone would win over any other app, but we also got YouTube and Search from Google. The great news are that this three apps were updated and improved. Google Search and YouTube just got a few improvements and stability and bug fixes as always, anyway, this apps are just amazing. If didn’t know the Google Search app you have been missing a lot, Google Search allows you to search anything from places on Google Maps or videos on YouTube right on the homescreen/desktop of your Nokia E71 or E71x, an amazing app that completely improved the way I use my E71.
But the big improvement was made on the Google Maps application, the new ”Layers” were added making Google Maps even better. Layers shows users layers of information to the user, for example traffic&incident reports and points of interest. But definitively the coolest Layer is the Wikipedia one that gives you information about the place you are in at that moment. Not to mention you can create your own layers from your PC and then see them on your Nokia E71 using Google Maps.
Google Apps are awesome, but unfortunately they don’t let the users know when there is a new version. To update the apps you have to download them again by going to the mobile Google site and hitting ”more” than Maps, YouTUbe and Search by separate.

The Nokia E71 is a very elegant device, afterall, it was made for business people, hence, the ”Eseries. But anyway, there are plenty of regular users (like me) that also use the Nokia E71 not for business, but for media and having fun.
I have been looking for ”newer” more modern looking themes for the E71, and I have found a very cool one. This is a free blue theme with touch icons for the Nokia E71, it is called ”XpressRockMusic” and looks just amazing.

Genius themer Tehkseven did it again! Well, he designed a beautiful, beautiful theme for the Nokia E71 and E71x out there. He named the new Theme ”Qi”, pronunced ”Chi” which of course means something in Japanese. Well Qi, is the active principle forming part of any living thing, and since of course your Nokia E71 or E71x is not a living thing, Qi will make it a living thing! That is thee whole concept behind the Qi theme, for your boring Nokia E71 to take life by installing the Qi and letting the Qi flow in your Nokia E71. The Qi theme has 3 different sets of icons to choose from, you can choose default style, you can also choose touch or Ovi Style, and finally Seven Style which are icons designed by Tehkseven himself. The Nokia N97 has a brand new blue theme that looks really well, and Mandeep from Nokia Mobile Blog, has created that same N97 default theme for everyone to install on their devices! The N97 default theme is very cool and unique, it has a tone of blue between light and dark, and has very cool touch icons and other small details like metal highlights and special effects. Mandeep created this theme for free and is ready to download and install on your Nokia E71!

One of the most amazing things a smartphone can do is letting the user watch YouTube videos on the go, it is amazing how a Nokia E71 or E71x can replace a computer so well, and watching YouTube videos is one of the things that was difficult to do on a smartphone because YouTube did not support mobile devices and mobile devices did not support the Flash plugin requiered to watch YouTube. Well, not anymore! YouTube and Google launched silently a client for the Nokia E71 and E71x to watch YouTube videos on the go, this free client allows you to do anything you normally do on YouTube on your computer, but on your mobile device. All from searching, subscribing, watching and rating videos without the need of a computer!
YouTube is also a very nice addition to the E71′s entertainment options, anyone who used YouTube knows that it is lots of fun, and it gets even better when you have it right on your E71!
