When Nokia launches a new phone, they usually do it in two variants the Asia/Europe and the American version. What is weird is that when a Firmware update comes for the E71, it is ONLY for the European/Asian version, and generally the American version is left behind without the bug-fixes and improvements. But now that the line of NAM’s has extended significantly Nokia has and will be providing NAM models more firmwares than it has been in previous occasions.
My PC Suite just informed me there is a new Firmware update for my E71-2 (NAM Version), the E71 has no UDP (User Data Preservation) so copy your data on your memory card, take it out while it updates and then insert it again to copy contacts/notes and other important stuff in your E71.
What is a firmware update? How to update your E71?
The firmware is the Operative System that is built-in into your E71, it is like Windows XP or MAC OSX Leopard. When you do an update, the entire firmware (Operative System) is removed and a new one is flashed into the E71′s memory. The update will improve speed, will improve errors and sometimes it will add features to the phone.

The firmware update can only be performed if you have a windows-based PC as far as I know; MAC users are left in the cold again.
Can I update my E71x with the new E71 firmware that is used for either Europe or Asia?

Why can’t I use my existing AT&T sim card on the brand new E71x?
My sim card works great on my unlocked N70 for the past couple of years.
Do they have 3G specific sim card that works with this phone?
All sim cards are the same, but how did you get an E71x without going to the ATT office where they set you up everythinng? You should go to the ATT store, I really have no clue
I bought it off from a CL posting. Oh well, I will get it unlock first and see how that goes.
I think the AT&T e71x has some special code to read certain SIM cards. But what do I know…

I’m going to buy an iPhone and just give this stupid E71 to the dustbin… one more thing, is the camera… the most incredibly cheap and poor quality camera on the market! at the price you need to give for this device… wow what a shame mister NOKIA, what a deception for all of us… Such a nice design, practical phone, but as all Mac users I’m fully disappointed…
